Results from a low-energy analysis of the CDMS II germanium data.

چکیده
We report results from a reanalysis of data from the Cryogenic Dark Matter Search (CDMS II) experiment at the Soudan Underground Laboratory. Data taken between October 2006 and September 2008 using eight germanium detectors are reanalyzed with a lowered, 2 keV recoil-energy threshold, to give increased sensitivity to interactions from weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs) with masses below ∼10 GeV/c(2). This analysis provides stronger constraints than previous CDMS II results for WIMP masses below 9 GeV/c(2) and excludes parameter space associated with possible low-mass WIMP signals from the DAMA/LIBRA and CoGeNT experiments.

Recent results from the CDMS-II experiment
The Cryogenic Dark Matter Search experiment (CDMS) employs low-temperature Ge and Si detectors to detect WIMPs via their elastic scattering interaction with the target nuclei. The current analysis of 397.8 kg-days Ge exposure resulted in zero observed candidate events, setting an upper limit on the spin-independent WIMP-nucleon cross-section of 6.6× 10 cm (4.6× 10 cm, when previous CDMS Soudan ...

The CDMS-II experiment operates 19 germanium detectors with a mass of 250g each in a very low background environment. Originally designed for the search for Dark Matter the experiment can also detect solar axions by Primakoff conversion to photons. The Bragg condition for Xray momentum transfer in a crystal allows for coherent amplification of the Primakoff process. Since the orientation of the...

متن کاملFrom CDMS to SuperCDMS
The Cryogenic Dark Matter Search (CDMS) and SuperCDMS experiments seek hypothetical weakly-interacting, massive particles (WIMPs) that could account for the majority of matter in the Universe, by means of cryogenic germanium detectors. We provide an update on the status of the SuperCDMS experiment, and discuss the joint CDMS-EDELWEISS analysis.
متن کاملDark matter search results from the CDMS II experiment.
Astrophysical observations indicate that dark matter constitutes most of the mass in our universe, but its nature remains unknown. Over the past decade, the Cryogenic Dark Matter Search (CDMS II) experiment has provided world-leading sensitivity for the direct detection of weakly interacting massive particle (WIMP) dark matter. The final exposure of our low-temperature germanium particle detect...
